Rest Day in Galveston

Galveston is a cool place and a lot of fun. I am staying in the HI Hostel here and met some great English guys to hang out with. Marshal and Rich and I went out on the town Thursday and Friday night and Galveston is a very lively place. This is a fun town, very touristy, but with a lot of interesting history. It feels very much like Louisiana here with large cemeteries filled with large above ground tombs and elaborate gravestones. The buildings range from old stone to new wood framed stucco. I also saw a Synagogue and a Mosque here, which has been a first since California. It rained and has been really windy so I have not gotten any quality beach time in but I don't mind too much. It is nice just to rest a bit.

I decided to stay through today as well, and to ride up the coast tomorrow all the way to the state line. There is a state park right on the beach that I will ride to. The highway I will be trying to take is closed to cars, but I am going to try and ride my bike along it. I have been asking around and researching the net, but have been unable to find out if this will be possible. If it is not, I will have to head north to Port Arthur.

I am unable to load pictures, I have not been able to find a Wifi signal anywhere and the Hostel connection is very slow.

Hey Reece,
We had the whole family over today and showed them all your blog, now their all hooked. We asked Dustin what he thought about his Uncle Reece riding his bike around the world and he said, "It's awesome!!! I wish his bike had flames." Hope your ride up the beach is amazing. Love ya!!!! I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.
